Clarity

Natural diamonds are formed from carbon that is exposed to extreme heat and pressure deep in the Earth. Diamonds often have characteristics of clarity, called inclusions or defects. Inclusions are attached within the gemstone and defects on the surface of the diamond. If all else is equal, the closer the diamond is to flawless, without any inclusions or defects, the higher its value.

Diamond Cut

The cut of a diamond determines its shine. Artistry and workmanship are required to fashion a stone with proportion, symmetry and polish worthy of an excellent cut grade. The finer the quality of the cut, the more luster the diamond will have.

Carat Weight

of a diamond is measured in carats. One carat is equal to 0.2 grams, which is almost as heavy as a paperclip. Since larger diamonds are more rare, they will cost more than smaller gems of similar color, clarity, and cut grade.

Diamond shape

The shape of the diamond refers to the outline and general shape of the diamond. It should not be confused with diamond cut which is concerned with the fineness of the diamond being made or constructed and the proportion and dimensions from which the diamond is cut.

Each diamond shape has its own diamond cut grade such as ideal or excellent and very fine. The most recognizable shape of the diamond and representing the vast majority of diamonds sold is the round brilliant diamond as shown here.

However, there exist other shapes belonging to the two families of cuts and they are step cuts.
